My manifesto for President of the International Olympic Committee has 5 core pillars of what I would do if I was elected. In this post I go through my Empowerment pillar and why it is essential for the future.
Our future depends on collaboration and shared leadership. The voices of our athletes must be heard and acknowledged at the highest levels. I want to empower members, athletes, NOCs, IFs, partners and broadcasters to lead, innovate and shape the future of the Movement.
Each group has a vital role to play and, together, they form the foundation of our collective success, so we must create safe spaces for everyone to have their voice heard.
People won't always agree, but it's important all opinions are heard to foster robust and constructive debate. Diversity is our strength. Everyone’s opinions matter, no matter their age, gender, or nationality.
Many NOCs and IFs feel disenfranchised and unheard. Many members have shared concerns that decision-making is overly centralised, leaving them feeling disconnected from the direction of the Movement. They want a more inclusive approach to governance, one that embraces reform and fosters transparency.
In the next four years I will democratise governance to empower IOC members and ensure decision-making in the Movement clearly sits with the members, ensuring greater accountability, transparency and efficiency. Our true strength lies in working together.
