Leadership

First listen and learn - then lead. Leadership isn’t about micromanaging, it’s about building great teams and liberating people to succeed.

Leadership is not about the profile of office holders. It is about what the organisation achieves.

How you confront challenges, empower colleagues to take responsibility and work together, building trust which empowers the best people to make good judgments, and creating frameworks for teams to innovate and solve problems. It is about recognising you don’t have all the answers. As US President John F Kennedy observed: ‘Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other’ – to which I would add ‘and  listening is a pre-requisite for learning’. The order of the three Ls is important. Listen. Learn. Lead. That’s my approach. Listen to people, learn from what they say – and then lead change.
