Sporting success owes a great debt to community. It’s our duty to cherish those communities so they thrive for tomorrow's generations.
There are plenty of campaigns around the world for the need for a balanced and quality diet but nothing concreate on the role sport plays in a really healthy lifestyle. A generation of children is growing up without access to daily exercise creating a ticking time bomb of physical and mental health issues. I would like to see sport added to the UN Human Rights Charter under Article 26 – the right to education.
It should read: Every child between the ages of 5 and 15 shall have access to at least 3 hours of sport every week. After all, Article 27 talks about the right to enjoy the arts and share in scientific advancement. A good sports policy is also a good health, education, law and order, social cohesion and economic policy so we should make sure sport sits at the heart of the UN Human Rights Charter rather than just incorporated into other UN bodies, important as they are.
